what are some funny sports quotes?

I would like some sports quotes that have a bit of humour in them. If POSSIBLE any that are about ringette would be awesome

Yogi Berra said many funny yet thought provoking things.
He was a notorious bad ball hitter. Once manager Casey Stengel told Yogi to think about what he was doing at the plate.
Yogi’s response was: "I can’t think and hit at the same time."

Another is: "Ninety percent of the game is mental, and the other half is in the head."

When 65-year-old Vance Phillips was asked if he could still pitch his reply was: "Yeah, but it takes twice as long for the ball to get to the plate."

When slow-footed Don Duncan hit an infield roller and was trying to get to first base the coach kept yelling, "Run, Don, run."
Half way there Don yelled back, "Hell, if I could run I’d be in the Kentucky Derby."

When The Big Train, Walter Johnson, was throwing aspirin tablets, after two strikes were thrown, the batter turned to the umpire and asked. "Are there any snakes around here?"
The umpire said, "No. why?"
The batter (Joe Walsh) said because all I hear is hiss-hiss."
When the umpire said those were fast balls by Johnson, Walsh headed for the dugout.
The ump yelled that the count was only two-strikes.
Walsh yelled back, "You can have the third strike, I can’t hit what I can’t see."

Hope some of these are what you are looking for.
There is a book out by Joe Garigiola that has many many Yogi-isms.
He did say a lot of funny things but you asked for funny "Sports" sayings and quotes.
Good Luck.

What are some good, encouraging, sport quotes?

I would especially like soccer quotes or ones about playing your absolute best! thanks!

Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t how hard you hit; it’s about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done. Now, if you know what you’re worth, then go out and get what you’re worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hit, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you are because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain’t you. You’re better than that!

Losers quit when they’re tired. Winners quit when they’ve won.

Nobody’s a natural. You work hard to get good and then work to get better. It’s hard to stay on top.

You are never really playing an opponent. You are playing yourself, your own highest standards, and when you reach your limits, that is real joy.

It’s not so important who starts the game but who finishes it.

Do my eyes deceive me, or is Senna’s Lotus sounding rough ?

I can’t imagine what kind of problem Senna has. I imagine it must be some sort of grip problem

He’s obviously gone in for a wheel change. I say obviously because I can’t see it

It’s raining and the track is wet

and this is the third placed car about to lap the second placed car

A sad ending, albeit a happy one.

And Michael Schumacher is actually in a very good position. He is in last place

And that just shows you how important the car is in Formula One Racing

And there’s no damage to the car – except to the car itself

Either the car is stationary, or it’s on the move

He can’t decide whether to leave his visor half open or half closed.

I should imagine that the conditions in the cockpit are totally unimaginable.

It looks as though this year there will be seventeen Grands Prix for the World Championship, compared with the traditional seventeen.

Look up there! There’s the sky!

Mansell is slowing it down, taking it easy. Oh no he isn’t! It’s a lap record.

Schumacher wouldn’t have let him past voluntarily. Of course he did it voluntarily, but he had to do it.

The lead car is unique, except for the one behind it which is identical.

Well, now we have exactly the same situation as at the beginning of the race, only exactly opposite.

Do YOU Use Quotes?

Quotes have an ability to communicate complex emotions, ideas and also to summarize a wealth of history in several words. They can be funny, shocking, happy, sad, inspirational, morbid, cryptic, or blunt and bold – and we love to share and discuss them.

But what do you find you’re using them for? Some people love funny quotes simply because they’re bite-sized chunks of humor they can lob at everyone from their friends to their opponents as a means of making others laugh and sharing something interesting with people. But some find a deeper meaning behind quotes.

What we’re talking about is motivational quotes – anything from Ghandi to Hemingway. There’s something about a quote so powerful and inspiring that motivates you to do good, do more, or self-improve, and they feature on people’s skin as tattoos, on their walls, on their computer as desktop backgrounds or text files they access when they’re feeling down.

Do you have any favorites? There are some great quotes for athletes, writers and musicians, such as the following few:

“Sport strips away personality, letting the white bone of character shine through. Sport gives players an opportunity to know and test themselves.” Rita Mae Brown

“Fill your paper with the breathings of your heart.” – William Wordsworth

“He who sings scares away his woes.” – Cervantes

Lionel Messi – The World’s Greatest Footballer/Soccer Player EVER!?

I know there was Pele and Maradona – but Lionel Messi is in my option the greatest player EVER! And here are quotes from people who know a lot better than me…

caricature of Lionel Messi, greatest football ever

“He is unique and everybody is talking about how they compare him with Maradona or with Pelé. Well if he continues to do what he have been doing at Barcelona he will probably be the greatest player there ever been” – Sir Bobby Charlton Director, Manchester United

“You have to see him play – it is not something you can describe – you have to see it to believe it.” – Josep Pep Guardiola, Barcelona Coach

“Lionel was playing when he was 14 or 15 years old – he would appear on the pitch as a sub 15 minutes from time and finish the match scoring 4 goals in those 15 minutes. you know he was unbelievable from the beginning, everybody knew that he was a star and a genius with the ball” – Joan Laporta FC Barcelona President

What do you think – is he the greatest EVER player?
