My niece is trying out for Select Soccer?

Here’s the story,

My niece is a GREAT soccer player! She weaves around people like nobody’s business and has a stronger foot than anyone on her team.
The one and only problem with her is tryouts. She always loses motivation and doesn’t try her hardest, yet, she wants to be on the team.

Her parents have tried to ask her why she loses motivation, but she just says: "I get tired! They don’t allow us ANY water breaks!" (in other words, she just blames it on everyone else but herself)

I am the one taking her to tryouts this morning and I was wondering, ‘How would I get her to keep her motivation and not give up?… How would SHE keep motivation?’

Motivation is something you can not force feed a child. They either want, or do not want to make the effort. Soccer is not about just kicking the ball hard, it is about playing the game for two half’s.

BUT she may be right, her issue may be cardio and stamina. Many children can play the game, but most are not in shape enough to run the entirety of the game. They do get tired, and cannot stand the pace. For that, the child must see the difference between a recreation player and a true performance athlete. Then they need to make the step to train.

As she loses opportunities to play, and sees the reason why, she will either learn from the experience, or change her ways. Making the team is so much better than not. If she is ;smart; enough to see what needs to be done before the fact, the better. When I played, I realized that next years season and tryouts began today. That philosophy stands by my to this day, I train daily.


My Man Has No Motivation?

My fiance and I have been together for over a year. When we were first together, he had a job, lived on his own, and had hobbies (for instance, playing soccer). In the past few months, he stopped playing soccer and quit his job. Since that happened, he has been sleeping in every day, and he’s only filled out two job applications. When I try and get him motivated to get out of bed and DO things, he just says he has no motivation. I work almost full time, go to school full time, and do most of the cooking and cleaning. It seems to me that he has just started relying on me to do everything. Whenever I tell him I want him to wake up earlier and/or fill out more applications, he acts like he feels terrible about not doing these things already, gets really down on himself and says he’s useless. This makes me really bad for him, so the nagging usually turns into me comforting him and telling him how he is worth something. His parents divorced a few months ago, and it has been really hard on him, so I think this has a lot to do with the rut he’s in. I am just wondering, should I just wait it out and hope when he’s emotionally healed he’ll start doing things again? Or should I give him an ultimatum such as, FIND some motivation somewhere or lose me? The fact that he was self-sufficient when we were first together gives me hope, and I really want us to work out. But he just seems to be digging himself into a hole- he has low self esteem because he doesn’t have a job and sleeps all day, and the low self esteem keeps him from being motivated, and the lack of motivation leads to the same situation, which builds on the low self esteem. HELP!! Does this sound like a fixable situation??

Should i quit club soccer?

i’m 14 and i’ve been playing soccer since i was 4 years old. i used to love soccer so much but now all the passion i once had for it is gone. When I was younger i was a reallyy good soccer player because i naturally had really good skill. i would juke everyone and my coaches were always pretty impressed which was the one thing i could hold above everyone at that age. now that i’ve gotten older and soccer has become so much more competitive i feel like everyone is getting better while i’m getting worse. i’m one of the slowest people on my team but i honestly don’t know how to make myself faster! i’m just not a runner which is why i used to always use my skill instead. now other player’s skill has gotten just as good as mine but if i’m not fast then my skills are no good anyways. i used to play full games with never being subbed, but now i’m lucky to play half a game..our state cup tournament i played all of 10 minutes and it was the worst feeling in the world. every practice and game just ruins my self esteem and i want to cry every time. the thing is my soccer team and i are so close because i’ve been playing with all of them since 2nd grade. this season i was so close to quitting, but i couldn’t get myself to do it yet so i’m playing for this season but i have no motivation to play. I really don’t know how to get more playing time either, i show up to every practice and work hard while half the players slack off yet play the entire game. theres some players who don’t even show up to practice but still play. the girl that plays the same position as me is one of the best players on the team which sucks, but she misses half our games & practices for another sport but she plays wayyy longer than me! i’m not going to talk to my coach because i’d feel uncomfortable but its just unfair. my club coach seems to like me a lot so i know its not because he favors other players more. for highschool soccer i played every minute of every game even tho i was a freshmen and some juniors on the team rarely played. it got my confidence up so much but right when i got back into club soccer it all went away. i still plan on doing high school soccer so i don’t know if thats all i really need to do. the one reason i’d want to stick with soccer is because i’d stay in shape, and i eat way to much junk food that i wouldn’t burn off otherwise because i rarely can get myself to get up and workout without an organized sport. i’m just to confused to even make a decision on what to do about it because the fire that was once there just isn’t anymore. maybe taking a year off or so might make it come back but i just don’t know
